Trump vs. Twitter
Hey everyone!
I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving.
For this week's discussion on online arguments, I chose the recent feud between Trump and Twitter: (here). I chose this argument because of its relevancy, as this argument happened in May, and the election was just a little under a month ago. The three main issues I have with this online argument are:
1. It undermines/discourages the importance of fact-checking
2. It gives the wrong impression of what the First Amendment really says
3. Gives the impression that the President has Authoritarian-like powers (saying he will have Twitter shut down if they continue to fact-check him).
Here are my 5 rules on how to argue online correctly:
1. Avoid name-calling
2. Use evidence-based facts
3. Avoid an argumentative/ tone
4. Don't say anything you wouldn't say to a family member at dinner
5. Leave the argument if it gets too out of control
